MMA class!
Numbers are really picking up in both the BJJ and MMA classes; 5 more mats arrived at the weekend and the room we are now in is all matted out to full capacity, 50 square metres in total. A crash mat has been donated to the club, giving the lads and ladies plenty of air miles and more equipment for the MMA classes was purchased at the weekend. To complete the weekend of plenty, a sledge hammer is now residing at the club, ready to give the tractor tyre a real pounding. So after 2 years of tears and nomadic wanderings, it looks like Combat Base Bolton finally has a new home and is back to full speed!
Hard training ahead for everyone!

Oli Geddes seminar @ CB Pontefract today!
Enjoyed an afternoon seminar over at Darren and Helen Currie's gym today, as Roger Gracie brown belt Oli Geddes delivered a seminar, covering his complete half guard game in the gi. Oli is one of the UK's most prolific and successful competitors, having recently racked up his 300th competitive match, that's some going!
Also on hand was black belt Nick Brooks, who helped out on the mats and gave me some really useful tips on the techniques and words of wisdom on refereeing, an area which I am starting to get into on a large scale this year.
A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

UMA No Gi Groundfighting Event!
Had a great day today, both as a competitor and referee; collected the silver medal in the Masters division, winning one via kimura and losing to a guillotine from the category winner Stuart Barrs. After a short break it was straight into refereeing and I witnessed some very exciting and close fought matches; slick guard passes, smooth mounts and lightning fast back takes shared the limelight with arm bars, triangles and chokes a plenty.
All competitors were a credit to themselves and their clubs and it was a pleasure to be involved once again on a great day of grappling in the UK.
Next event on the UMA calender can be found at http://www.blogger.com/www.umauk.co.uk/Event_Calender.htm
