Well done Kelz!
Huge congrats to one of my old students Kelz Lau, who was awarded his stripes down under at Absolute MMA in Melbourne, the same gym where another of my students Juliette is also training at.
Two more of my students, Graeme and Ger, are visiting the same gym in August, so this looks like the gym to be in Melbourne...
From everyone at Checkmat Wimbledon, well done Kelz, keep up the good work!

Awesome session last night, with 10x5 minute rounds in the bag, as we get ready for the Surrey Open that's looking on the horizon; I'm pleased report that no aches and pains were felt this morning, must be the warm weather, or the magical properties of my BAIN rash guard and Grapple Kings Gi...

Well done Kevin!
Huge congrats to young Kevin Solomovitch on his fine performance at the Brighton Open at the weekend, coming away with two silver medals; first one was in the No Gi advanced purple bracket, then he competed in the No Gi Absolute, which was a mix of purple, brown and black belts. In all Kevin had eight matches and took six wins and was also working at the event as well.
A very cool and confident performance from Kevin, who's only been a blue belt for a year, so keep an eye on this young man in the future, he's going places!

Last night's class - keeping it real!
Had a brilliant session last night, as we donned boxing gloves and pressure tested our skills; lots of hard work and gallons of sweat were left on the mats as we pushed ourselves ever further in the pursuit of excellence.
We started off with rounds of boxing then moved on to more specific drills, working on defending the open guard pass whilst being punched, dirty boxing and pummelling with your opponent whilst being pinned against the wall, working for a clinch or body lock against a striking opponent and much more, rounding the session off with specifics on the ground, with a good helping of strikes thrown in for good measure.
The whole dynamics of grappling changes when there's someone in front of you punching you in the face and body and making your life a misery; you have to work hard and utilise all the hours you've spent in class to get you through each round, there's no hiding place when shit gets real, if you don't react then it's lights out.
Congrats to everyone last night who turned up and stepped out of their comfort zone and in doing so made their zone that much bigger...Oooosss!
