Spider guard week at Wimbledon BJJ
It's been another awesome week of training and time to overload my students with a barrage of new techniques, never before shown in the Wimbledon Dojo...
The spider guard is my favourite open guard and I threw out six new sweeps at everyone and watched with a wry smile as they grappled with the intricacies of some the sweeps, trying to invert to get the sweeps and failing...
Trying any new advanced sweep for the first time will always end up frustrating you if you let it, better to embrace and enjoy the challenge of new techniques, that ay your confidence grows and comfort zone expands...
Looking forward to drilling out these sweeps over the Summer :)

Last night's class
Brilliant turn out for a Bank Holiday Monday, as we went over some of the failed submission attempts from the Fight Sports Cup and went over two new sweeps from the open guard, lots of fun last night, really enjoyed teaching, with a lot of light bulb moments for everyone on the mats :)

Monday night class
After the dust had settled from all the fun and games at the Fight Sports Cup, it was back to the drawing board on Monday night, for a full review of the performances from all the lads that competed at the event.
Lots of positive feedback from the lads, lots to work on as always and the lads are more fired up than ever to compete again, which can only be a good thing. Taking a look at the competition calendar and will see what comps the lads want to do in the Summer :)

Fight Sports Cup
Awesome event yesterday with the first Fight Sports Cup was held at Britannia Leisure Centre in North London.
Four students from Wimbledon BJJ entered the event and sadly things didn't go our way, three guys lost their first match on points and one guy won his first match with a lightning quick foot lock and lost his second match on points.
Lots of positives were taken from the day, no one was submitted and points were scored on their opponent and game plans were executed in all matches, luck was on the side of their opponents, but all great fun and it's got the lads all fired up to compete again so that can only be a good thing.

Man Flu strikes again...
Apologies for the lack of content this month, I've succumbed to a horrendous bout of the deadly Man Flu and have been confined to my bed and the couch for the last ten days...thankfully, I'm over the worst and will be back to regular Blogging duties, kicking off with a couple of BJJ Digest videos for your enjoyment :)
