Fight Sports London Gathering...
Really looking to this event happening at the weekend over at London Fight Factory :)
It will be the first time all four clubs meet together under one roof and is a chance to listen to what Luiz has to say about where he envisions taking Fight Sports London now and in the future and as always, naming one huge Fight Sports London team photo!
Oooosss

Studio NW2's official opening...
Last weekend I was away in Barcelona and sadly missed the opening of Studio NW2, operated by Enrique Villasenor, who is part of the Fight Sports London family.
Enrique gave me the following few paragraphs that described the momentous occasion...
Studio NW2's official opening took place on September 15th, with over seventy people in attendance; the head coach, Enrique Villasenor, welcomed everyone and introduced two special guests, Claude Jager and Luiz 'Manxinha' Ribeiro. Enrique received his blue belt from Claude in Switzerland, during the time he was training with him over ten years ago. Luiz has been Enique's coach ever since Enrique moved to London and became the second black belt from Manxhina.

At the start of the session, back belt Radek Kwiatkowski showed some sneaky attacks from the guard and Manxhina showed how to defend against the techniques that Radek had just shown; Claude ended the teaching with a couple to techniques from the x-guard and all that remained, was some rolling and post training beer and cake.
Enrique would like to thank everyone that turned up on the day to support the event and hoped everyone had as much fun as he did :)

Old school photo...
This photograph showed up in my Facebook feed today, from an old student of mine, that showed up on his Facebook feed...the photo was taken from a multi style seminar in Harrogate, taken around 2000/2001, back in my leaner days, where my old coach Trevor Roberts was one of the guest instructors...

Last night's class...
Last night was one of the busiest Wednesday's of the year so far, something which has really surprised me in all my years of teaching; teaching up North and down here, Wednesday nights has always been a hit and miss affair, all the other nights I teach are always busy but I had no idea how many would turn up on a Wednesday night.
The last six weeks has seen double figures for a Wednesday night and they are threatening to become more popular than my Monday night class!
That said, I hope this new found interest for a mid week tear up on the mats may long continue and as always, lots of hard work and sweat made the class a very enjoyable one to teach.
It was great to have back one of my old students, a Globetrotter pin up boy these days, Graeme Mc Kenna, who's been travelling the world and getting in some top notch training and tuition, good to have you back :)
A very busy week for Wimbledon BJJ, as we get ready for the Destroy Inc comp in October, looking forward to Monday's class already...
Oooos!!
The Wimbledon Royal Rumble...
The Royal Rumble made a welcome return to Wimbledon BJJ last night...sixteen of us started on the mats, but there can only be one...after losing half a toe nail to what can only be described as underhanded skullduggery by my students, I made a quick exit and looked over proceedings...it was all fun and games as it should be, then it got down to just two people and then it gets serious!
This time the two people were related, which made for a real tussle between the two for bragging rights and in the end, it was young George who came up trumps and became the first winner of the Royal Rumble :)

Last night's class...
Another action packed competition class last night in the bag, as we continue with preparations for the Destroy Inc event at Dartford Judo Club in October...
Three Judo takedowns were covered last night and we even looked at guard pulling, to which I hang my head in shame, as we're always looking for the two points at Wimbledon BJJ. That said it is part of the competition scene and I wouldn't be doing my job properly if we just dismissed and ignored the guard pull and how to defend against it.
A nice little shark tank for the guys looking to compete at the event rounded off the class, together with rounds of rolling for everyone; it was a pleasure to teach last night, hard work from everyone, whether competing or not, it's a team effort to get the guys competition ready, so a big well done to everyone last night :)
Bronze for George...
Huge congrats to young George, who competed at the Hertfordshire Open at the weekend and came away with a well earned bronze medal; George has been very active on the comp circuit this year and the medal is a testament to all the hard work he puts in to each class every week, not forgetting all the shark tanks as well :)
Next stop, the Destroy Inc event at Dartford Judo Club in October...

Last night's class...
Another solid session last night, getting back to full strength numbers wise, now that the Summer holidays are over; great to see back a number of familiar faces who happily embraced the shark tanks that have been waiting for them since they left the country...

New patches!
Picked up the new Fight Sports patches this morning, first come first served on Monday night, they won't be around for long :)
Training this week...
It's been another good week of consistent training, with a dip into the world of Judo and Sambo; it's always good to throw in some standing techniques in the sessions and not to become to reliant on the guard pull.
A couple of throws using a belt grip were shown and a couple of Sambo techniques, including my favourite, the rolling knee bar were also shown, plus some old school Catch moves too, going back to my Northern roots and early years of training in the early 90's with my old coach Trevor Roberts, Matthew Clempner and all the gang at Atherton Fighting Fit.
