Great session last night as always, covering the rib popping knee on belly position, a move that's served me well both on the mats and at work, when dealing with the local ne'er do wells :)

Earl Duncan Photography
Had the pleasure of photographer Earl Duncan on the mats last night, who came down to take photos of the training session, which will be going towards a very interesting project on the hard work, discipline and fighting spirit of those who practise martial arts.
Any BJJ clubs in and around London that wish to be involved in this project can drop me a line at wimbledonbjj@yahoo.com

Last night's class
More fun and games sans the Gi, getting the PJ's back on next week, getting ready for the Fight Sports Cup...
Silver for George!
Huge congrats to young George who medalled at the Destroy Inc event at Dartford Judo Club at the weekend...
Northern Monkey On Tour - Southampton
Had a great day out at the weekend down at the Sway Dojo in the New Forest in Southampton , attending a seminar with Cailey Barker at Adrian Starr's dojo...I first met Adrian at Tony Pillage's Last Huzzah last December and it was from this meeting that I was invited to the seminar with Cailey, which was all about applied martial arts for the street, interspersed with little talks from Adrian about the use of reasonable force within the martial arts and with the moves we were being shown by Cailey.
Adrian speaks from twenty plus years experience as a Police officer and gave a very interesting account on the use of reasonable force within his little talks, something I found very interesting, more of which should be available to all who practice martial arts.
In all, five hours flew by and before we knew it, we were in the pub having a nice cold beer as a reward for all the hard training and I look forward to inviting Adrian and his students over to Wimbledon BJJ in the near future.

No Gi with Sharpey
Another quality and busy session with Sharpey last night and our first No Gi with him too; a couple of old school high percentage techniques to play around with and lots of rounds of sparring in the bank, a great way to kick start the week.
We look forward to having Sharpey back in a month's time and looking forward to class tomorrow and sharpening ourselves for the Fight Sports Cup in May...

Northern Monkey On Tour
I'm celebrating thirty years in martial arts this year and with this milestone under the belt, I'm hitting the road and dropping in on old friends and new to share the mats and have some good training and lots of laughter...
This weekend I took a drive up North to Leicester to see my old friend Rob Phelps and his students and anther dear friend, Jim Mc Sherry, managed to drop in and join in the session too.
I had a great time and this is the first of what hopes to be many more, the next trip out will be this weekend down in Southampton, meeting up with a new friend I met last December over in Coventry, when I attended Tony Pillage's Last Huzzah.

Last night's class
Another busy session last night at Wimbledon BJJ, enjoying the freedom of the No Gi game; not having to wear the cumbersome Gi makes everyone feel a lot lighter, making the specifics and sparring sessions a lot faster and more explosive, yet exciting to watch, but with more risks of injuries if the ego isn't reigned in...
Took the class through a fair bit of stand up grappling, with lots of pummelling, arm drags and guillotines, plus a funky new back take, all of which was well received and rounded off a great week of training, with all the 10th Planet goodies shown on Monday night.
Roll on Monday night, when we have the return of Sharpey, for a No Gi masterclass.

No Gi at Wimbledon BJJ
Kick started the month of April off with No Gi training, with one of the students returning from three months in Birmingham, training at 10th Planet, so kindly showed some cool moves last night, which went down a treat with everyone on the mats, myself included.
Huge thanks to the hugely talented Gareth Baxendale, aka Gartista, for the new seasonal addition to the Northern Monkey logo range; the weather is much warmer down here in London, so it's time for some No Gi nonsense here at Wimbledon BJJ...
