Good riddance to 2020!

Well, it's been a very different year this year, challenging to say the least!  With the help of my loyal and supporting students, Wimbledon BJJ has weathered the storm so far and with a new vaccine ready to be rolled out, hopefully we will all be back on the mats early in the New Year.

Thanks to everyone that's read the Blog and left me your kind words, very much appreciated!

Massive shout to all the Fight Sports London team and all Fight Sports clubs around the world and to all my martial arts friends around the globe, have a great night tonight and all the very best for 2021, hope to see you all soon!

Oooss!

Double arm bar from closed guard

Here's a short and cheeky little video that deals with a super Old School techniques, that I first learned way back in the early 90' from my Traditional Jiu Jitsu instructor Trevor Roberts.

It can really catch people out when they get a bit too comfortable in the closed guard and the submission comes on super fast, so make sure you get the tap in fast!

Brabo choke from closed guard

I sincerely hope you have all enjoyed a few days of eating, drinking and relaxing as much as possible under these Covid restrictions and hopefully we will be back training in the New Year.

In the meantime here's a video for you all to enjoy; it's one of my favourite submissions and as this Blog is aimed at grapplers of a certain age and Mid Life Rollers (a very popular Facebook and IG group) I'm looking to add more and more videos that work for me and work for you, so watch the video and drill it with your training partners and let me know when you hit the submission in a roll :)

It's been a funny old year to say the least, but it's one more sleep until the Big Day...

I hope all you readers out there are with someone and not alone over the festive season and having a well earned break until the New Year, let's hope it's a damn sight better than 2020...

Merry Christmas!

Half guard sweep - when the opponent defends the Old School sweep

As the old saying goes, BJJ is like a game of chess, you have to be a few moves ahead of your opponent and this video shows you one way of doing this; attacking with the Old School sweep can set you up for other sweeps and if you hit the Old School, well done!

This video shows one option when your opponent defends the Old School entry, so please subscribe and enjoy the videos...

Old School half guard sweep

With the vast majority of us stuck in Tier 3, I've finally got my finger out and started sorting out a handful of technique videos that have been gathering dust in my laptop and getting them posted on my You Tube channel.

This sweep oozes Old School and I first learned this as a white belt way back in 1999 at the Machado academy in Los Angeles and I've been using it ever since.

Please subscribe to the channel to enjoy more videos :)

Wimbledon BJJ - You Tube channel!

Please subscribe to my You Tube channel, it's called Wimbledon BJJ :)

A look at Nelsons with the Northern Monkey

Here's a little You Tube video, where I go over the series of Nelsons at Wimbledon BJJ...

A nelson hold is a grappling hold executed by one person from behind the opponent, generally when both are on the mat face down, with the opponent underneath the aggressor.

In wrestling, a nelson is used to control an opponent or to turn them onto their back and execute a pin; in BJJ, they are a great addition to your grappling arsenal when your opponent turtles up and can be used to pin an opponent with a mind to advance position and also sets up submissions.

I have used the quarter nelson in many live situations on the doors, after softening up the aggressor with strikes, the quarter nelson works a treat in getting the aggressor to the ground, where you can control and restrain.

You can find a video on my You Tube channel covering this technique, which I will post on here soon.

Please subscribe to the channel and enjoy the videos!

Wimbledon BJJ - closed AGAIN!

Sad news today as London enters Tier 3 in a bid to bring down the rising number of Covid cases...this means that classes are no longer running until London returns to Tier 2.

In a bid to ease the boredom, I'll be endeavouring to post more technique videos on here and other fun stuff, so keep your eyes peeled and fingers crossed for a quick return to Tier 2...
