A really good turn out last night for a Bank Holiday, two new starters and mats at fifty per cent capacity :)
It was our last No Gi session for the Summer and we go back to the pyjamas on Wednesday night; as always, lots of fun over the Summer, trained a fair bit of Catch with the students...plenty of face bars, neck cranks, Nelsons, grovits, banana splits and much more...
Filmed this cheeky little non IBJJF friendly technique at the Open Mat yesterday at Wimbledon BJJ...I'm no expert on Catch, but I did a lot with my Traditional Jiu Jitsu instructor and with the likes of Daren Morris and Jack Mountford at Atherton Submission Wrestling.
I also had the honour of training a few sessions at the Snake Pit with Roy and Andrea Wood back in the day too.
Doing my little bit to keep this wonderful art alive here in London.
Enjoy!
It's been a long time coming, but I'm really excited to show off the design for our club Gi...I was going to get one last year until Covid struck, now things are back to normal(ish) I've got the design sorted and taking orders at the club :)
Treated the monkeys to a Catch session last night, lots of non IBJJF friendly techniques for everyone to play with, including neck cranks, face bars and Nelsons...
Was nice to have a visitor dropping in from NWA in Croydon, see you soon Jeff!
Rummaging through old posts on here and found a post of some old school pix I posted back in 2012...
This photo was taken at GB Birmingham, before they had their own gym and was at a local leisure centre, in or around Shirley, if my memory is to be trusted.
Back then, blue belts were Gods and thin on the ground and every blue belt on the photo smashed me to pieces on that session!
On the back row on the right are Ande Roberts (bald head) and Barry Foley; I think it was Barry's partner on the front row called Rachel, the other blues I remember the faces but not the names sadly.
Can't believe this was taken twenty years ago!
Huge congrats to PSP's legal advisor Craig Lawson on his well deserved promotion to black belt in Traditional Jiu Jitsu at the weekend :)
Craig has recently started training BJJ with me in his fifth decade, which shows you're never too old to learn and put a white belt back on :)
Another short video, showing a cool duck under takedown, with a nice little back take thrown in for free :)

Another great session, another new starter and THREE purple belts gracing the mats at SW19 last night!
Ooos!
Two new starters at the club last night got their first stripe on their belts, thoroughly well deserved :)
Congrats Nick and Louis from everyone at the club, the journey has started :)
Ooos
Had the honour and pleasure of promoting two more well deserving students to purple belt last night :)
These guys have been with me since Day One when I opened the club as a brown belt and have been part of the core of the club ever since.
HUGE congrats from everyone at the club, next stop brown belt :)
Experimenting with the Shorts video format on You Tube.
Shorts are less than one minute long and are separate to the regular Jiu Jitsu videos that I post on there and is another window for people to see what happens at Wimbledon Jiu Jitsu.
I've posted three old shorts as a test and in the four days they have been on I've had an extra 2.5K views and three subscribers added to the channel, so it's going well and I've posted a new video today, filmed at the club on Monday night.
Enjoy!

Great weather for training, always hard to compete with the beer gardens, but for those who turned up, we all had a great session and left plenty of sweat on the mat!
Great to have Craig Lawson down from Leicester and finally got to meet Zafar Hashmi (Blue Gi), who I've been chatting with during the lockdown and today we finally got to train together.
Look forward to the next Open Mat :)
I have the honour and pleasure of being invited to teach on the Japanese Martial Arts Show in Wolverhampton on November 27th.
The event is the brainchild of my good friend Lucci Del Gaudio and is a full day of teaching and demos with various guests, followed by a three course meal in the evening, with a special guest of honour and presentations.
I will be teaching two slots, the first being Applied Jiu Jitsu and the second slot will be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, focussing on the ground work.
I dug out my old Trad JJ Gi jacket, not been worn for twenty years and still fits!
Ooos
As we know, all BJJ matches start from standing, so it's important to drill standing techniques in class and even go as far as joining a Judo club to supplement your training.
This is an old clip of my students sharpening their tachi gaza at the start of the class :)

Another killer session last night, starting with the return of the Northern Monkey Fight Night, more on that in a future post...
Two more new starters, including another female student, bringing the tally up to a record breaking four females at the club, looking forward to welcoming more in the future.
Next session is an Open Mat this Saturday 230pm :)
Now restrictions are over, we are back running our popular Fight Night series, starting this evening at 815pm...
Students get to call each other out on the club's What's App group, then the training and smack talk begins!
A couple of fights have been postponed, but we have three fights on the card, all will be filmed edited and posted on You Tube within the next week.

Last night was a very special night for me and the club, as I promoted my first student to purple belt :)
Thoroughly well deserved and hard earned, like all belts should be...it's been a long hard slog, we've sweated buckets and bled together, I've made him puke a few times, he's tapped me out more times than I like to admit, he's broken bones and still hits the mats and has competed many times both at white and blue belt and has quite a collection of medals.
It's been a lot of fun along the way and I'm looking forward to his next chapter on his journey and let him loose in the purple belt division :)
CONGRATS from myself, my students and all the Fight Sports family :)
Was great to be back on the mats after two weeks in the sun and back in the trusty old pyjamas :)
Two new starters last night and more to come on Wednesday and next week, plus at least ten regulars off through illness and holidays, so come September, we'll be back to pre Covid numbers :)
Oos!
Managed to sneak in a cheeky fortnight in Tenerife, with our rescheduled holiday from last year.
To say it was stressful with all the tests and paperwork required for the trip is a huge understatement, but we made the most of the sunny weather and am back home now enjoying the cold and the rain!
Looking forward to getting back on the mats tomorrow night :)
HUGE congrats to my very good friend Jonny Buffong, the man behind MMARAP, on his well deserved brown belt today!
Took the Gauntlet like the nutter that he is :)
