Only three sessions left before we have our first competition of the year, so every session counts!
Looking forward to the lads competing next weekend :)

Another solid turnout last night and another killer competition class in the bag, as our first competition of the year looms on the horizon...hard work from everyone last night, pushing those who are competing to their limits and beyond, really looking forward to seeing these guys compete in February!
Had a great competition class last night and smashed the attendance record at the club at the same time!
Thirty three students took to the SW19 mats last night, eclipsing all past attendance records and it's only January!
With over a dozen regular students absent due to injuries and COVID, I don't think it will be long before we pass the fifty mark, looks like I'll be needing a bigger shark tank soon!
As the title on the You Tube video says, get unfriended with this cheeky little bicep slicer from the Lasso guard...at Wimbledon BJJ we don't roll and submit according to the IBJJF rules, we allow all submissions, including heel hooks, YES, heel hooks, adopting a catch and release system.
Waiting until brown belt before you can knee bar, bicep and calf slice in class for example is a crazy idea, only a small percentage of your current students will make it to brown belt!
Enjoy the video and let me know I you hit this in class or competition :)

A new record number of monkeys on the mats last night at SW19 :)
Another solid competition class in the bag, as the competitions move that little bit closer week by week, so every session is important in getting the students ready for competition.
More of the same tomorrow :)
Really looking forward to this event in April, back at the same venue in Wolverhampton; I'll be teaching on the day, as well as joining in other martial artists' sessions, then enjoying an evening session with drinks, food and presentations, plus lots of networking...what's not to love?!
It was an honour and a privilege to have Adrian Valman on the mats this afternoon at Wimbledon BJJ :)
Adrian is President of the Global KAPAP self defence organisation and he dipped his toe into the BJJ waters this afternoon.
Looking forward to seeing a lot more of Adrian on the Saturday classes :)
A great session this afternoon over at SW19, keeping up the momentum for the upcoming comps in February and March...roll on Monday!
Another killer competition session last night over at SW19...

That's it for two hours!
Hard work and gallons of sweat from everyone last night, as we prepare for comps in Kensington and Brighton in February and March...
This is the second book by my very good friend Gary Savage, as he writes about his obsession with all things Gracie and his dream to become a BJJ black belt, back in a time when finding a BJJ black belt teaching in the NW of England was nigh on impossible.
The book is filled with names and characters from the early days of UK BJJ, some of them sadly no longer with us, as well as other milestone events, all written in Gary's light hearted and readable style.
It was nice to read about Gary's journey, as it pretty much mirrors my own in many ways, we are both old school dinosaurs and our paths crossed during the early days and we have been good friends ever since.
You can get the book from Amazon, as well as his other one, Karate doesn't work in a phone box.
A record number on the mats last night at Wimbledon BJJ, as we start our competition training for the Grappling Industries Round Robin and the Brighton Spring Open.
So far, we have three white belts and two blue belts up for the Brighton Spring Open on March 5th at the Hilton Brighton Metropole; hoping to get a few more down for this awesome event run by Lawrence Dutton and the BJJ 24-7 crew.
It's business as usual here at Wimbledon BJJ, as we set our sights on our first competition of 2022.
Three white belts have stepped up to the Grappling Industries Gi and No Gi round robin event on February 5th.
The hard work begins tonight :)
What a great way to start the year, than with a visit from a black belt!
Bruno Roberto is an instructor at the Maffie BJJ academy in Sao Paulo and is in town for a few months; he contacted me and asked about training at the club, so I invited him along and he joined the class with his nephew, who is also visiting from Sao Paulo.
A great time was had by all and we look forward to seeing him next week.
Another solid session at SW19 last night, a few more students returned to class last night, a lot more expected next week, so looking forward to more busy sessions and lots of hard training ahead!
New Year calls for new You Tube videos, so I'll be making a batch of new videos over the next few weeks, which I'll be sharing here on the Blog and across social media.
Mid Life Roller friendly high percentage techniques that I use in class on a regular basis, as well as some from my competition days; until I get them filmed and edited, I'll post some of the videos my right hand man George filmed for me in 2021 to whet your appetite.
Have fun watching them, please subscribe to the channel and ring the bell and have fun drilling them in class and hope you catch somebody with them!

Getting back to normal now the festivities are over, with seventeen monkeys waddling onto the mats and kick starting the New Year the right way :)
There's as many monkeys still either abroad or with their families in the UK, will be fun if they all turn up at once during this year :)
What better way to kick start the new year than with a cheeky group private this afternoon at SW19 :)
Had a great session with the monkeys, going over a handful of sweeps and twisting each other up and starting the new year in the right mindset.
Next class Monday - bring it ON!
