Had a better than expected turn out last night for the last class of the year :)
Gave the monkeys a masterclass in open guard sweeps and pressure passing and really looking forward to 2023, we have had a very successful year this year and looking forward to keeping the momentum moving in the new year :)
It was an absolute pleasure to promote my student Craig to blue belt last night :)
Craig lives in Leicester and comes down to train on the Saturday classes and during school and Christmas holidays, something that humbles me every time he comes down.
He's stepped up to compete at the young age of 51 throughout 2022 and I look forward to seeing him compete as a blue belt.
Wishing all my Jiu Jitsu friends around the world a very Merry Christmas, hope you all have a great day tomorrow with lots to eat and drink :)
A pretty decent turn out last night at SW19, as most of the monkeys have gone back home for the Christmas break; the last session before Christmas covered the Anaconda guard and fooling around with heel hooks :)
The scissor sweep is my all time favourite sweep and was filmed in slo mo at SW19...this mode of filming techniques is very helpful for students, as they can see all the stages of the sweep that sometimes gets missed when teaching in real time.

A very busy class for this time of the year, going over some of the gold left behind by Demian Maia at the weekend :)
Yesterday was the last training session with UFC legend Demian Maia at London Fight Factory and what a session!
The class focussed on getting the entry into the Anaconda guard and was a masterclass in using BJJ for MMA, with video footage of Demian using exactly what he was teaching in some in some of his UFC fights.
From the Anaconda guard, a Pandora's box of leg locks, heel hooks and knee slices was opened, along with some absolute gold teaching points on sweeping and finishing submissions.
I can't wait to get back on the mats tomorrow and start drilling it all out with the monkeys!

Christmas came early for the Northern Monkey, as I received my second stripe today from Luiz Ribeiro at the start of the last training session with Demian Maia at London Fight Factory :)
I remember all the years I craved for my BJJ black belt and now I've had it over six years :)

Had a fantastic evening of Jiu Jitsu last night, courtesy of the legend that is Demian Maia, over at London Fight Factory; Demian is here for a three day training camp and last night was a three hour masterclass in Gi and No Gi.
The sessions focussed on pulling Anaconda guard for No Gi and butterfly guard for No Gi and lots of specific training from these positions; it was also backed up with video footage of Demian in the UFC, using the Anaconda guard as well as bullet points on how to sweep a person and going through these steps in class.
Tonight is a continuation of last night's work, which I sadly can't make due to work and tomorrow will be BJJ for MMA, which I will be there for :)
A quiet one last night thanks to the train strikes, so I treated the monkeys to a lesson in PAIN via the lapel and rolling arm bars :)
Great to have Mike 'GIP' Cutting back at the club last night, bringing along a few more of his team mates last night from Andover and getting back training with an old training partner Chris Petherwick.
Had a great session with the lads and look forward to their next visit in a few weeks :)
It was a pleasure and an honour to welcome Chris Petherwick to the team at Wimbledon BJJ last night, as he prepares to start repping Northern Monkey Jiu Jitsu in January 2023, opening up his own club Submission Scoundrels in Andover.
Chris has an extensive background in martial arts and brings a wealth of training and competition experience to the table and we all look forward to Chris joining in our training sessions and getting back into competing in the New Year :)
A very special night last night at SW19, as we had all belt colours from white to black on the mats for the very first time :)
HUGE congrats to Mike and Jun on their well earned third stripes and to young Erik on his well earned grey/white belt last night at Northern Monkey HQ :)
Mike and Jun have competed all year and have collected quite a haul of medals from bronze to gold and Erik had his first taste of competition at the weekend.

Not our day today at the Grappling Industries competition today in Harrow for young Erik, who had his first taste of Jiu Jitsu competition; he went out to fight and put up a gutsy performance and I'm sure he'll remember the day for a long time and certainly has learned from this experience.
This is our last comp of the year and we have competed every month this year, so a HUGE thanks to all the monkeys that have stepped up and laid it all on the line for Northern Monkey Jiu Jitsu...the Northern Monkey salutes you!
HUGE congrats to young Max on his very well deserved promotion to great belt last night, my first promotion at this level :)
Max is a credit to himself ad the club, rarely misses a class and gets stuck in with the big guys and never sits a round out when it's time to roll and is always up for one more roll, can't ask for more than that :)
Thirteen hardy monkeys braved the cold weather last night at SW19 and soon got the mats warm with lots of sweat and hard work :)
A solid session last night at Northern Monkey HQ, delving deep into the world of guard passing and plenty of rolling to end the session, a great way to start the week :)
An excellent class last night to end the month of November, went over a couple sweeps with a fine tooth comb and lots of rolling finished the session off.
A couple more sessions and we're off to out last comp of the year at the Grappling Industries event on December 11th :)
