It's No Gi this week at Northern Monkey HQ and the last class of February; took the class through taking the back when your opponent turtles up and the head and arm triangle from side control and mount position and ended the class with specifics and rolling, as always :)
Another Gi session in the bag last night, two more guard pass options from opening the closed guard and a few submissions from the back position, plus lots of specifics and rolling to end the class :)
Had a great session in the pyjamas on Monday night, took the class through opening closed guard and passing with the double underhooks and going straight for the kill with the deadly paper cutter choke :)
Lots of fun for everyone and plenty of rolling and specifics too :)

Killer No Gi session last night at Northern Monkey HQ, ended up a real heat haze at the end of class, lots of hard work and perspiration in the air last night :)
Had a great Catch session last night over at Mark Ganaden's place in Cobham, with Wei Tran teaching the class, dropping some excellent techniques :)

Had a very enjoyable seminar up in Leicester at Rob Phelps' dojo on my ongoing world tour of the UK :)
It was 2019 sincere I was last up there, so it was high time for another seminar with Rob and his students, plus I was joined by dad and lad duo John and Leo Brunsden from Maidenhead, Tom Sheppard from Birmingham and my very dear friend Jim Mc Sherry, who was promoted to black belt on the morning of the seminar!
The seminar was a mix of competition Jiu Jitsu from the gold left behind by Demian Maia and some good old Catch wrasslin' courtesy of Wei Tran and Mark Ganaden, who teach over in Cobham, plus a little of my own knowledge handed to me from Trevor Roberts and all the guys at Atherton Submission Wrestling.
It was a great turn out considering the cost of living challenges out there, was very humbling to have so many people turn out to train with me, I received some great feedback and look forward to getting back up there later in the year :)

Last night we had a VIP guest all the way from South Korea, by the name of Sugin :)
We missed each other before Christmas when she was visiting family, this time she managed to come to class last night and I found out she'd never done No Gi, so was a bit nervous of what to expect.
In addition to her first class, she would also be training Catch for the first time too and at the end of the class, she told me she really enjoyed No Gi and will start training it back at her gym in South Korea :)
An excellent session at Northern Monkey HQ, No Gi style and consisted of the techniques I drilled at the Cobham Catch class on Tuesday night.
Lots of fun and lots of sweat on the mats from all the monkeys, hard work from all :)
HUGE congrats to Michael 'GIP' Cutting on his very well deserved promotion to brown belt by my very good self, over at my Northern Monkey World Tour of the UK on January 14th, at Kyouken MMA in Andover.
Michael is also a pro MMA fighter and has fought on the likes of BAMMA, Bellator, Cagewarriors and other prestigious UK MMA events.
Mike is getting back to hitting the mats in Gi and No Gi events this year, as well as returning to the cage; it's going to be a busy and productive year for Mike and myself, looking forward to teaching him, sharpening him up and bringing back the medals :)
I had the pleasure of doing my second seminar of the year over at Kyouken MMA in Andover on January 14th, a week after my first seminar at Zentai Jiu Jitsu in Portsmouth.
This seminar covered the Anaconda guard, going over the gold left by Demian Maia last December at London Fight Factory and was a mix of Gi and No Gi.
Huge thanks to my student Craig Lawson, who came down from Leicester to support the event, much appreciated as always.
Had a great time teaching and training with all the Kyouken MMA students, I had a lot of fun and look forward going back there later in the year :)
Another killer session last night at Northern Monkey HQ, this time in the Gi and I treated my coloured belts to a brutal shark tank, putting them to the test against all the hungry white belts :)
The energy in the room last night was electric, it was a pleasure to teach and watch everybody improve, class by class :)
What a start to the new year, our first competition at the Sussex Open and we walk away with a gold medal!
HUGE congrats to Jun on an outstanding performance today, this is just the start!
After a very productive start to the year, last night we had an action packed session to kick start February :)
We had guard passes, sweeps, the dope mount, specifics and sparring and the first tanque de tuburao for young Erik :)

I couldn't make the class last night, as I was working, so it was nice to see a couple of monkeys out there repping Wimbledon BJJ out in Cobham :)
