The wait was finally over last night, as Deninho hit the mats at Wimbledon BJJ and delivered a guard passing and side control and masterclass, together with the help of fellow black belt Sharpey.
After a quick warm up Deninho went straight into the class with one guard pass from standing and one from the knees and went on to stress these are the guard passes he uses a lot both in class and competition.
After showing how to properly open the guard from standing and from the knees, Deninho showed two very simple, very basic guard passes, what most people would term 'white belt moves' but boy are they effective.
Guard passing covered, the four basics of side control were covered with a fine tooth comb and Deninho left me with a really cool game to play with the four positions that I'll be going over in class tomorrow and pretty much every class after that.
The mats were packed for the class and everyone were not disappointed; Deninho has a very friendly and approachable demeanour and nothing was too much trouble for him, when anyone had a question he answered and when he was teaching he really made sure everyone had understood the move before he moved on to the next part.
A brilliant start to the new year for Wimbledon BJJ and the first of many masterclasses from Deninho, who, after a Q+A session at the end of the class, went on to say how much he enjoyed the class himself and more importantly, commented on the positive vibes and good energy he felt on the mats from all the students.
Huge thanks again to Deninho for taking time out of his very busy schedule to be with us last night, also to Sharpey for coming along to support the class and to Bam for taking photographs all evening, looking forward to seeing those in due course.
Can't wait for class tomorrow!!
