Last night's class

A solid turn out last night at SW19 for a great No Gi session; covered arm bar attacks from turtle position and a few footlocks for good measure, lots of fun for everyone :)

Welcome back Ahn!

Was great to have young Ahn back at Wimbledon BJJ last night, he's here for the Summer from South Korea visiting his parents; he was here earlier in the year and he jumped right into it and entered the Grappling Industries comp in February, hopefully we can get him into another comp and he can take a medal back home as a souvenir :)

Medals for the lads!

Huge congrats to the lads on their recent medal wins over the last couple of weeks :)

Two golds at the Brighton Open and a bronze at the Caged BJJ event, onward and upwards :)

Last night's class

It's No Gi all the way this Summer as temperatures rise a few degrees, so lots of Catch Wrestling to enjoy over the next few weeks, before we put the pyjamas back on :)

Bronze medal for Nick!

Huge congrats to young Nick who competed at the Caged BJJ event last weekend and bagged a well deserved bronze medal :)

Nick competed at the Brighton Open the weekend and failed to medal, so he was fired up for this event and came back with a medal, so well done from myself and everyone at Wimbledon BJJ :)

Last night's class

Brilliant session last night at the club, going over the gold that Mauricio Gomes left us with on Saturday afternoon; numbers creeping back up to where they were in January and February, with an influx of new starters helping boost numbers :)

6th Dan for Satinder!

HUGE congrats to my student Satinder, who was awarded his 6th Dan in Karate on Friday just gone, a tremendous achievement and very well deserved to a truly talented martial artist :)

New ladies at the club!

Great to have another influx of new starters and even more so that they're all ladies, taking their first steps to Jiu Jitsu enlightenment :)

Two are identical twins and if they swap their Gis around tomorrow night, I'll be hard pressed to work out who's who :)

Stripes for the lads!

Huge congrats to the lads on stripes #2 and #3 last night, after all their hard work this year competing and training hard week in week out.

Hard work, duly rewarded :)

Double gold at the Brighton Open!

Another good day at the office yesterday, as three students decided to jump in the No Gi division at the Brighton Open and came back with two gold medals!

On this performance, the club ranked 34th out of 94 academies and Northern Monkey Jiu Jitsu ranked 12th out of 23 teams, not bad at all for a small London club :)

CONGRATS to Jun and Mike on their podium wins, the start of many this year and beyond :)

Mauricio Gomes seminar!

Myself and the monkeys had a great day out yesterday at the invite from Marc Barton, who had arranged a seminar with Mauricio Gomes at his club at Kingston BJJ.

I got my blue belt from Mauricio way back in 2003 in Jersey and it's been a few years since we last met, so I was very looking forward to the seminar and sharing the mats with Mauricio once again, this time as a black belt :)

A great afternoon of no nonsense old school Jiu Jitsu and I'm looking forward to drilling it all in class tomorrow night :)

You Tube video - Technical Get Up

Here's my latest offering on You Tube...this technique has saved my skin many, many times whilst working in the security industry and really is a life saver.

Whether you train martial arts, work in the security sector or just a regular member of the public, this is easy to learn and hopefully you won't ever need to use it, but it's very handy to know this technique just in case.

The Iranian Lift

I first saw this technique in Grappling magazine, demonstrated by members of the Alliance team and I've been using it over since; it's a great warm up drill and actually works when rolling, catches a lot of people out.

It's an alternative to shrimping away and recovering guard, you're on the offensive instead of the defensive; try it out in class and let me know if you hit it in a roll :)

Precision Self Protection @ Kaizen!

Had a great day out yesterday at the Kaizen event in Nottingham, repping Precision Self Protection, alongside our legal adviser Craig Lawson; it's been over two years since we launched out first PSP seminars, so it was great to get back on the mats and share some gold with the attendees, who all enjoyed the session and we received some great feedback and look forward to the next Kaizen and getting back out and doing what we do best, delivering seminars :)

Sandan!

As the saying goes, you can't rush greatness...

In May 1999, I was promoted to 2nd Dan in Traditional Jiu Jitsu by Trevor Roberts and this afternoon, I was promoted to 3rd Dan by Colin Foster in Portsmouth.

A thoroughly enjoyable day and massive thanks to my long suffering uke George Brown, couldn't have done it with you and he got his revenge in the car after the grading :)

Last night's class

A hot and sweaty session at SW19 last night, a heady mixture of No Gi BJJ, as we get ready for the Brighton Open next weekend and a small portion of Applied Jiu Jitsu, just to mix things up little bit, all good fun :)

Precision Self Protection at Kaizen!

Two thirds of Precision Self Protection will be on Mat 2 at 1pm at the Kaizen event Sunday June 12th at Clifton Leisure Centre in Nottingham.

My good self and PSP Legal Advisor Craig Lawson will be on the mats, delivering reality based training, pressure testing and discussing the legal aspects involved in self protection, something a little different than the usual seminar.

Look forward to seeing you on the day :)

Last night's class

A great to start to a very short Brighton Open Training Camp last night, as a few of the lads are doing the No Gi division on June 19th, so a quickfire blast of No Gi training for everyone at the club until then :)

Great to see the lads at the club with their well earned bling :)

Happy 8th birthday to Wimbledon BJJ!

A very happy 8th birthday to Wimbledon BJJ and Northern Monkey Jiu Jitsu on Saturday just gone :)

Time flies!

A good day at the office!

A great day out yesterday at the Grappling Industries, coming back with a gold, silver and bronze medal for the lads :)

A great improvement from our last time at the competition in February this year, when we didn't get any medals, so a great result and a testament to all the hard work the students have put in during the last four months :)

Onto the next comp!
