Outstanding Contributions Award!

 Very honoured and humbled to have been given an award for outstanding contributions to martial arts at the Japanese Martial Arts Show on Saturday.

I've never been recognised like this before, so this award is very special for me and I was there to witness a lot of other high ranking martial artists getting their awards for outstanding contributions and lifetime achievement wards too.

Plus, it's very rare to see me in long trousers ;)

Japanese Martial Arts Show!

 Back home now after a superb event in Wolverhampton yesterday, a very long day from 10am until 11pm, combining a day of world class martial arts seminars across three mats, as well as displays and a fantastic evening session, with more displays, a three course meal and free beer and presentations celebrating life time achievements, outstanding contributions and rising stars.

Lucci, Nick and their team did a sterling job of hosting this event and getting so many quality instructors all together under one roof :)

Looking forward to the next one in April :)

Good luck at the English Open lads!

 Last night was the last session of our English Open training camp, with two students competing in the white belt division at the weekend...the first part of the class went into detail on the concepts left behind Demian Maia and then the lads were thoroughly shark tanked and are as ready as they'll ever be, come the weekend.

Sadly I won't be there, but they'll have my assistant instructor and a few students to help cheer them on.

Stripes and belt upgrade last night!

 HUGE congrats to brothers Alex and Alvaro on their well earned stripes and new belt :)

First time I've given out a grey/white belt and the first time I've had to stripe a wrist, now I know who it was that left their belt behind after class a few weeks ago :)

Demian Maia at LFF - Day 3!

 Three days of absolute world class Jiu Jitsu training in the bag, from the Jiu Jitsu wizard Demian Maia :)

The mats were flowing with positive energy on all three days, as Demian left us with a huge amount of concepts and techniques on taking the back, controlling the back and finishing the back, backed up with video footage of Demian in action, practising what he preaches.

My students and I absolutely loved it, as did everyone else and we were very sorry for it all to come to an end, looking forward to drilling it all out and remembering as much as I cancme Monday night :)

Demian Maia at LFF - Day 1!

 Last night was the start of a three day training camp with Demian Maia at London Fight Factory and what a night!

Demian is covering his new back attack system that you can find on BJJ Fanatics and he started off with ways of taking the back and the most important part, controlling the back. Tonight he will be showing how to control and submit from the back and Demian also talks about how to develop a mindset for competing and also shows comp footage of him controlling the back and subbing, as well as when he loses the back position, which really backs up his teaching.

Can't wait for tonight!

Tilly Hunt Fundraising Seminar Poster!

 Really looking forward to this fundraising seminar in December, which is very close to my heart, as I lost my mother to a brain tumour.

Also looking forward to learning some Aikido and sharing my Jiu Jitsu knowledge as well :)

Last night's class

 Killer competition class last night over at SW19, as two students are competing on the 27th and were duly beasted for a full hour :)

One of them pushed himself so hard, he threw up in the toilets, cleaned up and got back on the mats, can't ask for more than that!

Charity seminar - December 11th

 I'm really pleased to announce I will be teaching on a fund raising seminar at West Midlands Aikido Association on December 11th.

A daughter of one of the instructors there was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the start of the year and the seminar aims to raise funds for two charities that looked after young Tilly Hunt.

The day will be a mix of Aikido and Jiu Jitsu and I'm looking forward to sharing the mats, learning new things and raising money for a very worthy cause.

Lovato Jr seminar at London Fight Factory!

 Really felt like the world was back to normal last night, as I took an army of monkeys over to London Fight Factory, for a seminar with Rafael Lovato JR; Rafael is competing on Sunday at the RAW Grappling event at London O2 and dropped in last night to deliver a masterclass in guard passing and a number of game changing details on a few of my favourite submissions, which I can't wait to try out on my students next week!

For most of my students, this was their first time at LFF and with a truly world class level Jiu Jitsu instructor and as always, the smiles in the photos say it all :)

What's more, next week, we have a three day training camp at LFF with none other than Demian Maia...the Jiu Jitsu Gods are really smiling down on the monkeys right now!

 Really looking forward to this event on November 27th, just received the line up for Mat 1 on which I am on and I'm on after Jimmy Pape and Paul Geoghegan, so no pressure...!

Stripes for the ladies!

 Of all the belts and stripes I've given out, giving these ladies their first stripes gave me the most pleasure last night :)

Both ladies have black belts in enthusiasm and always light up the mats with their infectious enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck into their training; both students completed a full on gruelling one hour shark tank and never once complained or gave up, they were pushed to their limits and then they dug in and pushed on some more, expanding their comfort zones along the way!

There were tears at the end of class when I gave them their first stripe each, which just shows how much the training and stripe means to them both and look forward to giving them more stripes and colour upgrades in the future.

Well done from myself and all your team mates at Wimbledon BJJ :)

New blue belt at SW19!

 HUGE congrats to young Franco, who was promoted to blue belt last night, after completing a gruelling one hour shark tank with no complaints and no giving up :)

Twelve hour Charity Gasshuku in aid of the Royal British Legion!

 My very good friend Sue King, 7th Dan Jiu Jitsu, is training hard for an upcoming charity twelve hour Gasshuku, to help raise money for the Royal British Legion.

What's a Gasshuku I hear you cry?

Gasshuku's are generally done in Karate circles and consist of up to four days of intensive training. Sue and her training partner Sean will be training non stop for twelve hours, throwing each other and finishing off on the mats and lots of grappling as well, covering a wide range of techniques from their training syllabus.

Shark tank for Adriana!

 I had the pleasure of giving student Adriana her first shark tank, to help celebrate her birthday on Tuesday, as I'm kind like that and always nice to celebrate a milestone with a shark tank. She faced seventeen of us, going over side control to mount and she displayed spirit and a never give up attitude and the smile on the photo says it all.

It shows how much she enjoyed it and was a big boost to her confidence, which is what I love about Jiu Jitsu, it's a very strong empowering tool for women, so I'm looking forward to giving her many more shark tanks in the future :)
