Last night's class

 A killer session last night at SW19, as always, lots of hard work and sweat from everyone and a mini Carl's Quick Fix section, tweaking up three high percentage submissions...might have to make a YT/IG/TT channel on that and make my millions :)

Monday night's class

 It's No Gi this week at SW19 and another hot and sweaty wrasslin' session on Monday night, just the way we like with lots of shark tanks and rolls for everyone to enjoy :)

CONGRATS LADS!

 After a fantastic day out at the NAGA event on Saturday, it was time for some of the monkeys to step up and move up a rung in their Jiu Jitsu journey; massive congrats to all the lads last night on their well deserved stripes and belts, the level at the club is constantly improving and we can definitely hang in with the bigger London clubs, Saturday proved that well enough :)

Erik was promoted a few weeks ago and I forgot his belt and then he went on holiday, so last night I remembered and brought his belt to class :)

NAGA medallists in the house!

 It was great to have five of the seven monkeys on the mats last night, showing off their hard earned medals and belts; hard work has truly been rewarded, our best result in the club's history and at one of the UK's prestigious event, not bad for a humble back street club in SW19, training twice a week and the odd Saturday here and there :)

EPIC medal haul at NAGA!

 Well, what can I say about NAGA yesterday...

Two gold and two AWESOME belts!

Three silver!

Four bronze!

A truly EPIC day at the office for the club, out best result in the club's history, beating our medal tally at the last NAGA event by three medals...this event really brings out the best in my students, with one guy finally getting his first W in a weight group above, a teenager competing in the adults division and one blue belt fighting two black belts in his division and really holding his own.

I'm so proud of them all I really could burst and all this coming from training twice a week and the odd Saturday afternoon :)

Grey Grapplers Club - official member!

 Huge thanks to Philip Bennett from over the pond in sunny Texas for sending over this cool patch to make my membership of his club official :)

These patches are for grapplers of a certain age and he has a group on Facebook of the same name, so if you're over forty years young, get on the group, it's full of cool like minded people and he has big plans for the club and for raising money for charity as well.

Last night's class

 An absolute KILLER No Gi session last night at SW19, bringing our NAGA training camp to an end; all that remains is for the monkeys to rest up until Saturday and then let them loose on the mats :)

It's been a great training camp, been drilling lots of new techniques into our sessions, looking forward to seeing the monkeys pull off some of the moves on Saturday and in future comps throughout the year :)

 Posted another video up yesterday from the Wayne Lakin seminar, which shows the deadly step over arm bar; this was the follow up technique from the video I posted the other day and is another very high percentage finish.

 A very hot and sweaty competition class night at Wimbledon BJJ, brutal shark tanks for those competing at the weekend, one more class tomorrow before the big day on Saturday :)

New You Tube video - get the arm bar!

 Posted a new video on You Tube a few days ago, showing how to break your opponent's grip, when they go into what is known as Spiderweb position in Tenth Planet Land and is a very common position in Judo and BJJ alike.

This was shown to us the other weekend when Wayne Lakin dropped in, hope I've done it justice and it is a great technique to have for BJJ'ers, Gi and No Gi, especially if you're going to the Eddie Bravo Invitational comps, that run the EBI Overtime rules.

In the Overtime round, you can choose to start from the back with hooks in and each person has a chance to submit or escape, or start from Spiderweb position and both have a go at subbing and escaping.

 HUGE congrats to Armada Apparel sponsored athlete Erik Domsodi on his very well deserved blue belt, time to step up a gear and start twisting up the young blue belts :)

Bank Holiday BJJ Bonanza!

 EPIC Bank Holiday session last night at SW19, back in the pyjamas this week, drilling the gold left by Wayne Lakin at the weekend; it was easy to add the techniques into our Jiu Jitsu game, went through a few moves last night and will play around with some more tomorrow night and I'm looking forward to seeing my monkeys nail people with these moves in competition this year :)

Wayne Lakin @ Wimbledon BJJ!

 It was an absolute honour and pleasure to have Judo legend Wayne Lakin on our mats at Wimbledon BJJ yesterday; Wayne delivered a masterclass on transitions and ground work, leaving us with pure gold to add into our Gi game and I look forward to seeing the monkeys catching people with it when he hit the comps this year :)

Wayne also gave us an insight into the mindset of high level Judoka and how they approach their fights and also gave us a mini masterclass of grips near the end of the session, brilliant stuff!

Everyone had a blast and really enjoyed the session, it's not even day we have a guest of Wayne's calibre on the mats, so a huge thanks to Wayne to coming over and sharing some of his knowledge with us and I'm looking forward to class tomorrow, lots to play around with :)

Last night's class

 An absolute killer session last night at SW19, a little quieter than normal, but a great session none the less...the content on the wrestling for BJJ workshop at the Snake Pit has really enhanced the No Gi classes and the material has been easy to put into our training and I'm really looking forward to seeing it in action at NAGA in a. few weeks time.

Medals for George and Erik!

 Great to have George and Erik back in class last night, showing off their hard earned medals at the weekend...next comp will be NAGA in April, really looking forward to this comp, the last event was our best day out in 2023 :)

 Another hot and sweaty No Gi session at SW19 last night, troubleshooting a few things that came up in Erik's fights, applicable to everyone competing or rolling in class...watching competition footage is great for me as a coach, as I get to see things I'd rarely see in class and can work them out in class, helping make everyone that little bit sharper :)

Double silver for Erik at the All Stars Europeans!

 Another good day at the office and a very busy weekend for Armada Apparel sponsored athlete Erik Domsodi, who competed at the All Stars Europeans event on Sunday and came away with two hard earned silver medals.

A great weekend for Wimbledon BJJ, with two gold and three silver medals in the bag and now it's full steam ahead for the NAGA event next month, as the monkeys have their sights set on the awesome belts that are up for grabs :)

 A great day at the office on Saturday at the UKGCC event in London, with Gorgeous George bagging gold in Gi and No Gi and a hard fought and well earned silver medal for young Erik :)

Kimono week at SW19!

 This week we are back in the pyjamas at Northern Monkey HQ and had a hw and sweaty session, covering guard passing and lots of rolling, getting the monkeys ready for NAGA and Grappling Industries in April :)

New School BJJ - Brixton!

 Had a very enjoyable session at New School BJJ Brixton last night, attending the evening Gi session; last year one of my students competed against one of the New School blue belts, a Patrick Gnaye and after chatting to Patrick, he invited me over to train at his club.

The session was taken by Reiss Bailey, IBJJF European Masters 2023 Gold medallist among other accolades and it was a nice change being a student again, instead of a coach; the session was very technical together with specific training and rolling and I will definitely be back for more.

Huge thanks to Reiss for the class, Patrick for the roll and all the students for making me feel welcome on the mats :)

No Gi session!

 Had another very enjoyable No Gi session last night at Northern Monkey HQ, going over the wrestling takedowns for BJJ from the seminar at the Snake Pit on Sunday; the takedowns are really easy to integrate into our training and I'm looking forward to seeing them in action at NAGA and Grappling Industries next month :)
