 Killer session last night at Wimbledon BJJ, record number of monkeys on the mats for 2024, no doubt this will surely be beaten over the course the year :)

 Once again, another busy session at Northern Monkey HQ, lots of hard work from everyone on the mats, working hard to our next competition in February and getting a few more monkeys interested in competing at the NAGA event in April :)

 Huge congrats to teenage sensations Erik and Max, who competed at the weekend and came back with very well earned gold and silver medals...last year was just a warm up!

 Huge congrats to teenagers Matt and Niall on their very well earned first stripes, who make me look tiny when stood next to them...are they really teenagers???

Last night's class

 A killer session last night at SW19, another busy session, packed with eager monkeys, keen to twist up fools and learn some new techniques :)

Gold and silver at the BJJ 24-7 London Open!

 What a great start to the new year and our first good day at the office yesterday; it was left to the young guns to showcase some Northern Monkey Old Man Jiu Jitsu, albeit with a teenage twist :)

Gold for Max in his first outing and silver for Erik, outstanding performances from both young men, looking forward to our next comp in February :)

Kyouken MMA in the house!

 Last night the club had the pleasure of the first of many VIP visitors at the club, in the shape of Adam and GIP from Kyouken MMA in Andover; 2024 is my tenth year down here in London and as such, I'll be aiming to have many more visitors throughout the year to help me celebrate this milestone achievement.

Adam is also set to compete this weekend at the BJJ 24-7London Open, so we all wish him well on Sunday and look forward to seeing him on the podium :)

 Another busy session at Northern Monkey HQ last night, our last No Gi session before the monkeys compete at the BJJ 24-7 London Open at Crystal Palace on Sunday :)

Armada Apparel video colab!

 As mentioned in a previous post, it's an honour and a pleasure to be on board with Armada Apparel and last night I put their rash guard and shorts through their paces in class and managed to get some filming done for them and they've put together this short promo vid, showcasing Old Man Jiu Jitsu :)

I'm not as fast as I used to be, but I'm still hanging in there, flying the flag for the over fifties, showing them its never too late to take up this lovely sport of Jiu Jitsu and twist up some fools :)

Wimbledon BJJ on board with the Armada Apparel Gym Partnership Program!

 Well it's certainly a great start to the year at Wimbledon BJJ...not only do we have young Erik on board with Armada Apparel as a sponsored athlete, it also gives me great pleasure to announce that the club is now on board with their Gym Partnership Program :)

As part of the program, the club will benefit from tailored digital marketing strategies, social media promotion, content creation colabs, SEO optimisation and lots more techy help and support that I don't know how to do :)

Thanks to Elliot for dropping off a rash guard and a pair of shorts for me to use in class and in creating videos of me in action on the mats, looking forward to seeing the edited videos online real soon :)

Erik Domsodi - Armada Apparel Sponsored Athlete!

 It gives me immense pleasure to announce that Erik Domsodi has joined the Armada Apparel Athlete Content Creation Program and is now a sponsored athlete :)

This is a great start to the year for Erik, hard work certainly pays off; everyone at the club are looking forward to seeing Erik up on the podiums this year repping the cool gear from Armada.

 Killer session at SW19 last night, working on takedowns for the comp on the 21st and lots of sparring and a shark tank for one of the competitors :)

Last night's class

 A healthy turn out last night at Northern Monkey HQ, lots of monkeys still abroad with family, but lots of fun nonetheless; our first comp of the year is on the 21st, so there was lots of drilling, sweating, shark tanking and rolling last night, as you would expect :)

Last night's class was in memory of grappling legend Jack Mountford, RIP Jack.

 HUGE congrats to James on his well deserved second stripe, awarded last night at Northern Monkey HQ :)

RIP Jack Mountford

 It's with a heavy heart to say that the grappling legend Jack Mountford has passed away after a long illness.

Jack was an encyclopaedia of the grappling arts and one of the unsung heroes of Catch Wrestling and was a major influence on my formative years back in the nineties, when I was training at Atherton Submission Wrestling and Bolton Wrestling Club.

There wasn't a counter to a counter to a counter that he didn't know and I was so glad I got to see him last year; the photo shows Jack at the World Judo Masters and he would have been around 66 at least, a truly inspirational old school grappler, who pioneered the modern game we see today, long before rash guards, spats and the IBJJF ruleset crept in :)

First class of 2024!

 Had our first class of the New Year last night and was straight back into the nitty gritty, as our first comp of the year looms on the 21st :)

Shark tanks for those competing and lots of rolls for everyone, great to be back!

Last class of 2023!

 Had a decent turn out for the last class of 2023, can't believe how quickly the time has flown, we have packed in so much into the year with training, seminars and comps and SO many shark tanks :)
