Pyjama Wednesday!

 Great fun in the Gi class last night at Wimbledon BJJ, lots of diving break falls for the warm up from my Trad JJ warm up days and went over a couple of sweeps from closed guard and lots of specifics to get a sweat on :)

No Gi Tuesday!

 Mixed up the two evening classes last night and had a killer No Gi session; Claudiu warmed the monkeys up with some wrestling drills and I took the class into a technical deep dive into guard passing and securing side control, plus a little alteration to make the side control a lot more deadly when attacking the Americana.

Plus a masterclass in defending a triangle, it's all about the hips :)

Stripes for the lads!

 Last night gave me immense pleasure in awarding stripe #1 to my first set of students who are in the Beginners classes :)

Hard work duly rewarded :)

Bank Holiday Jiu Jitsu!

 No L'il Monkeys yesterday afternoon due to the school break, so joined up the beginners and int/adv classes and had a good old tear up for two hours, pyjama style :)

All colours from white through to black belt on the mats too :)

Super Saturday Session!

 Great fun at the weekend with the Super Saturday Session at Northern Monkey HQ; lots of No Gi wrasslin and boxing and MMA sparring thrown in for good measure and finished off with essential post training rehydration at the Horse and Groom public house :)

Thursday night Wrasslin!

 Had a killer Wrestling session last night in the No Gi class thanks to our wrestling coach Claudiu; it was great for me to be a beginner again and actually train with my monkeys instead of coaching and it was a lot of fun and lots of sweat all round for everyone :)

Mixed class Wednesday!

Had both the beginners and advanced monkeys on the mats last night, went over a lot of Old School Jiu Jitsu and some brutal Catch style submissions, always good to mix things up and keep everyone on their toes :)

Wrasslin Tuesday!

 A very quiet Tuesday at Northern Monkey HQ, but that didn't stop two killer classes from going down; huge thanks to Claudiu for giving a wrestling hand fighting masterclass, I learned so much, was great to be a beginner again :)

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 Kick started the week off with a triple bill of Jiu Jitsu shenanigans, starting with the L'il Monkeys class in the afternoon and two killer pyjama classes with the beginners and advanced classes.

 Yesterday was like a cold Autumn day, hard to believe the day before we were basking in 24+C weather...that said, the mats were on fire at Northern Monkey HQ last night with two killer classes in the evening.

Lots of fun, hard work and sweat as always :)

Gi classes at Northern Monkey HQ!

 It was great see the numbers finally back up into double figures across both Gi classes last night; the beginners class was very busy with a handful of new starters and the advanced class was back up to speed too.

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 Had lots of Jiu Jitsu shenanigans yesterday at Northern Monkey HQ, starting off with the L'il Monkeys class and two killer evening classes, all in the Gi :)

Demian Maia training camp @ London Fight Factory!

 Had a brilliant time as always at London Fight Factory at the weekend, with a two day training camp with none other than UFC legend Demian Maia.

Friday night was a Gi class and Saturday afternoon was a No Gi class and on the Saturday we also had the pleasure of having 8x world champion Michelle Nicolini on the mats as well.

Massive thanks to Luiz Ribeiro for organising the training camp and getting Demian back to London, can't wait for the next one!

Beginners class last night

 Killer Gi session last night at Wimbledon BJJ, went through mobility and solo drills and showed the monkeys the efficacy of the fabled Gable grip and how it can be applied in a self defence situation as well as in our sport Jiu Jitsu classes :)

No Gi Tuesday

 A quiet one last night at Northern Monkey HQ, but still lots of fun teaching the young guns some moves and watching them go over techniques they've been looking at online :)

Bank Holiday Monday Jiu Jitsu!

 Wimbledon BJJ was open for business yesterday, pooling the beginners and advanced classes together, which is always great for the beginners to get to train with the advanced guys.

Took the monkeys through a trio of closed guard sweeps and lots of rolling to end the class, lots of hard work and laughs from everyone :)

No Gi Thursday!

 Another month over and a new one begins and what better way to kick start off the Bank Holiday weekend than with two killer No Gi classes :)

Great fun in the beginners class and a Catch Wrestling masterclass in the int/advanced class, took the monkeys through the standing double wrist lock as shown to me by none other than Billy Robinson himself when I attended his seminar back in 2011 :)

Wednesday classes

 Now the warm weather is her for a few days, it was great to get the shutters up at the gym and have two killer Gi classes last night, with a lovely cool breeze coming in as we all built up a sweat in our pyjamas :)
