Stripe #1 for Jonny!

 HUGE congrats to Jonny last night on his very well deserved first stripe on his white belt, the journey has begun!

Wednesday night = Gi night!

 Two killer Gi classes last night, four black belts on the mats, we're really getting spoiled here with the extra black belts at the moment, but we're not complaining!

Another night of PORRADA, just rounds of rolling for everyone in both classes, myself included, with four black belts to choose from, the monkeys are having lots of fun getting twisted up and are learning lots from all the other black belts, plus I'm getting pushed as well when I'm with the black belts.

Great fun as always :)

No Gi & Wrestling Tuesday!!

 Two killer classes night, three black belts on the mats for the No Gi class and an absolutely awesome Wrestling session with Claudiu...everything Claudiu has been teaching the last few months, hand fighting, level change, shooting and sprawling, was put into practice and tested under pressure.

All rounds were three minutes with thirty seconds rest and started off with positional rounds and ended with Wrestling meets BJJ, where we wrestled to the ground and looked for the submission, not for the faint hearted!

The intensity of the rounds are a far cry from Jiu Jitsu rounds, where you can pull guard and take a breather for example...in the Wrestling rounds there are no breathers, the only time you stop is when you've pinned your opponent, or the referee tells you to stop.

Everything we've trained the last few months was pressure tested and the sweat was pouring out of everyone, myself included, they say Wrestling is a young man's sport, but there's still the odd old timer like me hanging in there.

As Claudiu said last night, an old shark is still a shark :)

A fantastic night all round, the students really pushed themselves to their limits and beyond and now their limits are a little further way, so can be pushed further every time we run these classes; the gas tanks have increased considerably and will help those who wish to compete throughout the rest of the year.

Bank Holiday PORRADA!!

 No kids classes yesterday due to the Bank Holiday, but two killer Gi classes in the evening; not for the faint hearted, cascades grossas only, as the music was playing in the sunshine, we rolled all night, no trekkers or specifics, just good old PORRADA!

No Gi Thursday!

 Two killer No Gi classes last night at Northern Monkey HQ, rounding off another week of really awesome Jiu Jitsu, four black belts on the mats on Wednesday, what a weeks it's been!!

EPIC Gi class last night - four black belts in the house!

 Last night was a truly memorable evening for the club and the students, as we had four black belts on the mats, an amazing night for everyone; we truly felt like a proper London club last night and the classes took a different twist from the timetable as well.

In the Beginners class it was coloured belts only and three black belts, so we had an impromptu hour of rolling until the 8pm int/adv class, where all the white belts turned up!!

One black belt left at 8pm and another black belt turned up, so we repeated the earlier class and blasted the white belts for ninety minutes and the coloured belts, including myself, got in well over twelve rounds of rolling and I'm pleased to say I'm still in once piece as I type this post...testament to the high quality mats I have at the club, which cost me £200 per mat, but the price you pay is you're in once piece the next day, with minimum aches and pains, money well spent, especially where my body is concerned :)

Free Self Defence & BJJ classes at Wimbledon BJJ!

 I am very excited to announce that I will be running free Self Defence classes for women at my club, running on the first Thursday of every month, with the first class starting September 4th, 6-7pm.

In addition to this free class, the women are also invited to join the No Gi Beginners class right after the Self Defence class, again at no extra charge.

This is open to women of all ages, mothers can bring your girls to class, cool aunties and glamorous grannies are all welcome, the more women at the classes the better.

No Gi & Wrestling Tuesday!

 As always, another two killer classes last night at Wimbledon BJJ, starting with the No Gi Beginners class and ending with the Wrestling class with coach Claudiu, with Bruno jumping in both sessions and having lots of fun with the monkeys :)

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 The weeks are really flying by, can't believe we're half way through August, not many warm nights left on the horizon, so make the most of them whilst you can and get on the mats!!

Mondays are an absolute blast here at Wimbledon BJJ, starting with one of the two L'il Monkeys classes, as most of the scallywags are away on their holidays, but still lots of fun in the class today :)

Two absolute killer Gi classes last night, with three black belts on the mats, including a very good of mine who's back in London and will be training with us in the Gi classes, another huge boost to the club :)

Tonight is No Gi, doors open from 7pm :)

EVERY DAY PORRADA - seminar with Bruno Roberto!

 Had an awesome seminar with Bruno on Saturday at Northern Monkey HQ, with Bruno delivering a No Gi masterclass on proper Old School Jiu Jitsu straight from the source :)

Bruno is part of the Maffei Jiu Jitsu association and runs an academy in Osasco in Sao Paolo and trained with us a couple of years ago and is now back here visiting family and it's our absolute pleasure to have him back on the mats with us.

The seminar was enjoyed by all, techniques described by Bruno as simple and dangerous, with a little chuckle and a beaming smile after every technique shown :)

Post training refuelling and rehydration was at the local Spoons at the request of Bruno, who was joined by his family and friends and lasted well into the night.

Train hard.

Party harder.

No Gi Thursday!

 Two killer No Gi classes on Thursday night, lots of fun twisting up fools in the warm evening air, as always and lots of hard work and sweat from everyone :)

Brazilians in the HOUSE!

 Another epic night of Jiu Jitsu at Northern Monkey HQ, with Jean and Bruno on the mats and Bruno brought his brother in law and son Enzo to class and Enzo joined in the fun :)

Two killer classes, went over the shoulder crunch sweep and had lots of specifics and rolling a King of the Mats, with Bruno emerging as the winner!

Lots of fun in the warm evening, some great memories being made for everyone, with three black belts on the mats :)

No Gi & Wrestling Tuesday!

 Two killer classes last night, only the teenagers on the mats last night, not succumbing to the lure of the beer gardens in the sunshine (just yet) :)

Took the lads through a duck under takedown and when the opponent turtles, hitting them with a quarter nelson and one counter, finishing in side control and ending it all with an Amerciana.

In the Wrestling class with Claudiu, shooting and sprawling was the name of the game and rounded off a very hot and sweaty night of training at Northern Monkey HQ.

Lots of fun all round as always :)

Bruno is back!!

 Last night was a very special night as we welcome back Bruno to the club, who is here visiting family in Mitcham :)

As well as having Bruno at the club, we have another black belt, Jean, training with us on a regular basis and it was an extra special class last night, having two Brazilian black belts at the club :)

Bruno hails from Sao Paolo and Jean from Manaus and have may years of Jiu Jitsu experience and I'm looking forward to the next three weeks, having Bruno teaching a few of his old school techniques, which he says are simple and dangerous :)

Bruno will be teaching a No Gi seminar this coming Saturday, all levels welcome :)

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 Kick started another week off with some action packed Jiu Jitsu at Northern Monkey HQ; enjoying the warm weather right now, the L'il Monkeys had great fun and then two killer classes in the evening, with three black belts on the mats :)

 Two killer sessions on Thursday night at Northern Monkey HQ, covered hitting the arm bar from the S mount and had plenty of rounds of specifics and sparring and a few shark tanks for the beginners :)

Pyjama Wednesday!

 Two killer classes last night in the old PJs at Northern Monkey HQ, went over a couple of Judo takedowns and looked at finishing them off with an arm bar from a couple of positions...baptised a couple of new starters with their first shark tanks and lots of rolling for everyone, great fun all round :)

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

Three black belts in the house!

 Had a great class last Wednesday and a great turnout from the black belts, currently standing at three, one home grown black belt George and a new addition, Jean, who joined us a few weeks ago, hailing from Manaus in Brazil :)

Looking forward to training more with Jean, we are very lucky to have him at the club :)
