Another action packed Tuesday night of all things Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling at Northern Monkey HQ :)
Solid hour drilling takedowns and an hour of rolling, helps keep the cold at bay :)

Another awesome start to the week at Wimbledon BJJ, with four action packed classes, starting with the L'il Monkeys and ending with two Gi classes in the evening with the adults :)
It's all go now here at Wimbledon BJJ, with three sessions every night from Monday to Thursday for the adults; last night the monkeys trained the Thai class with coach Karina and two No Gi classes with the Northern Monkey.
Lots of hard work and sweat from everyone, as always :)
Plus a HUGE congrats to young Nancy who was crowned Queen of the Mats at the end of the No Gi class!
It's been a busy last few months at the club, with the addition of extra classes and last night we had another action packed night of training.
We are now running weekly self defence classes for women and lots of fun it was last night, with the ladies ramping up the realism, slapping the stuffing out of me, when I was wearing the helmet and making them really use the fence and open palm strikes :)
Two killer Gi classes ended another night of action, three classes in a row, working everyone hard, whether they choose self defence, Jiu Jitsu or Thai boxing, we have everyone covered at Wimbledon BJJ!
Another action packed start to the week at Wimbledon, with two fun filled session with the L'il Monkeys and a show of Girl Power in the 10-14yo class, always good to see :)
Then into the evening and two killer Gi sessions, the first hour warmed us all up with rolling and then the second hour a deep dive into guard retrieval from side control and mount.
Never neglect the basics.
Oos!
An absolute epic night of training at Wimbledon BJJ last night, double figures in all three classes; starting off with the Thai Boxing class with coach Karina, the girls outnumbered the boys almost three to one!
Two killer No Gi classes packed full of drills, specifics and sparring and studying the butterfly guard all this week in both the Gi and No Gi classes.
Lots of fun all week, looking forward to Monday when we start all over again :)
Two killer Gi classes last night at Wimbledon BJJ, lots of rolling and more butterfly guard gold to play with :)
Huge congrats to our monkey Jack from Down Under, who was awarded his very well earned first stripe in class last night...the journey has begun my friend!
Last night I launched weekly Self Defence for women at Northern Monkey HQ; these run together with the monthly free class, so women can choose the monthly or weekly option.
I'm looking to build up this class and I will give the women the option to grade in my Self Protection system and have a full syllabus from white to black belt, so lots of hard work and fun ahead!
I'm very excited to have started the Defend Your Future project with Merton Council's Detached Youth Work Team last night :)
The project is the brainchild of one of my students who is a member of the Youth Work Team and I was in the right place at the right time, offering my club and expertise to help get the project off the ground.
Last night was the first class and after introductions, the lads got stuck into the class; the classes are a mix of Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Thai Boxing and Wrestling and a lot of emphasis on Self Defence and knife awareness, plus mentoring and lots of other help and support for the young boys.
Three of the lads stayed on for the No Gi beginners class and I spoke to them all about training in the regular Thai, Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu classes, as well as talking about competing in the future.
Everyone had fun and enjoyed the class, which went off to a great start and it's initially a ten week project, but the aim is to keep the project running as long as possible and really help to make a positive impact on the young boys and girls in the borough.
Two very enjoyable No Gi classes last night at Northern Monkey HQ, carrying on the stellar work from Claudiu, sharpening up our single and double legs, plus shark tanks, specifics and rolling :)
Another great start to the week yesterday at Wimbledon BJJ, with two sessions with the L'il Monkeys and two Gi sessions in the evening with the adults :)
Lot soft fun and hard work from everyone :)
It was a very special day for the Northern Monkey on Saturday, as he was officially recognised as a third degree black belt from Luiz Ribeiro at London Fight Factory.
The Grading Days at LFF are always special occasion, watching the kids get their promotions and moving onto the adult gradings; the atmosphere and energy at these events are always off the hook and I was fortunate to have a handful of my students with me to support the day and soak up the energy and good vibes.
Nine years a black belt!
I remember all the years leading up to black belt and wondering when I would get it and now I've had it for nine years, to say that time has flown by is an understatement!
A brilliant day all round, it's going to be five years before I'm due my fourth stripe, I'm sure that will come round in a jiffy :)
Ooos
Packed mats all night last night, with five ladies staying on from the Self Defence class and getting stuck into the No Gi class :)
A fantastic night of training and rolling, as it should be :)
A brilliant turn out for the women's self defence class last night at Wimbledon BJJ, lots of energy and enthusiasm in the room from the ladies, who were all eager to learn and train hard!
It's great to have these ladies on the mats learning valuable self protection skills, both soft and hard and seeing their confidence increase in just one hour; these classes are really empowering for women and go a long way in making them a hard target and it's humbling I get this chance to pass on my knowledge and training to them all.
Oos!
A quiet one last night but packed with fifteen minute rounds and trouble shooting for the students, always a pleasure to be on the mats at my ripening old age :)
Two absolute KILLER classes last night at Wimbledon...a combo of Catch Wrestling and Wrestling, packed full of level changes, penetration steps, takedowns, shoots, sprawls and Indian crawls :)
If that wasn't enough we drilled the standing chin strap assisted Alch takedown with option to neck crank or maintain side control; we drilled the Alch from turtle position left and right, with options of leg scissors to the head and the old school Judo ashi sangaku submission.
Finished the night off with a mix of mat wrestling Catch style (pin to win) and rounds of rolling, starting from an Alch and double leg takedown.
All this crammed into two sweat soaked hours, casca grossas all round!
It's true to say living down here in London, you never know who might step through the doors :)
One is a legend, the other is Jason Statham :)
Well shiver mi timbers, it's now November!!
I can't believe how quickly this year has gone, running a full time club, it's gone in the blink of an eye.
Mondays are always a busy day of the week here at Wimbledon BJJ, kick starting the week off with two L'il Monkeys classes and finishing off with two killer Gi classes for the adult monkeys.
Lots of fun, laughs and sweat from everyone :)
