Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 Once again, another action packed day of Jiu Jitsu at Northern Monkey HQ yesterday...great turnouts for all classes, kicking off with the L'il Monkeys and packed mats for the evening classes :)

Had a blast teaching every session :)

Super Saturday Session!

 Great fun at the weekend at Northern Monkey HQ, with another action packed Saturday Session...lots of rolling, a few tekkers and a few of the monkey mixing it up with the MMA gloves, then the most important of any Saturday session, rehydrating and refuelling at the Spoons in Wimbledon :)

No Gi Thursday!

 Two killer No Gi classes on Thursday night with the monkeys...everyone's really getting the hang of the level change, shooting and sprawling and now I'm adding transitions from the takedown to hunting for a submission :)

Killer sparring rounds as always, got the MMA gloves on again and mixed it up!

PJ Wednesday!!

 A good turn out last night for the Gi class, went over level change, shoot and sprawl and attacked the back from the sprawl :)

Lots of fun rolling with the lights off and the disco light on, mixing it up with MMA gloves in the dark too :)

Stripe # 1 for Callum!

 Huge congrats to our teenage student Callum on his very well deserved first stripe on his white belt, awarded in class last night :)

No Gi Tuesday!

 An EPIC night of No Gi action at Northern Monkey HQ last night...two classes bursting at the seams with Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu :)

Went through the standing half alch to neck crank and worked on level change, shooting and sprawling and then added some submissions to the mix from the sprawl, dropping in a cheeky Vaporiser and head scissors :)

Had fun with a spot of mat wrestling Catch style, pin to win and then went into the rounds of rolling, ending the night with the last two rounds with one partner wearing MMA gloves and the other without, both could sub only one could strike and then the other guy got heir revenge on the last round.

Putting on the gloves and adding strikes really changes the whole dynamics of a roll, there's no room to hide and no places for pit stops, full on pressure throughout the whole round :)

Excellent work from everyone last night, the mats were soaking at the end of class :)

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 Here we are again at the start of another week and nearing the end of September already! 

Looking back from January, we've packed so much training and fun into the year, most definitely on a Monday, with four action packed classes, starting with the L'il Monkeys and two killer Gi classes with the adults in the evening.

No Gi Tuesday!

 Two killer No Gi classes last night, concentrated on level change, shooting and sprawling and moved on to getting the back position from the sprawl and finishing off with a slick Vaporiser :)

Well done to all last night, for some this was their first Wrestling based class and great to see one of the ladies, Rhythmi on the mats, shooting, sprawling and Vaporising!

New You Tube video - Takedown From The Russian Tie!

 Another cool takedown from the Russian Tie, demonstrated by Georgie one of our new starters, who attended the free Self defence class last week.

Georgie stayed on for the two No Gi classes afterwards and has since signed up for regular classes with us :)

This was Georgie's second attempt at this takedown, filmed at the end of class, I caught her training with Matt and saw her first attempt and filmed the second attempt.

The video has racked up a staggering 28 thousand views, in less than a week, most of my vids get from 1-5K, so this is quite the achievement!

Pyjama Wednesday!

 A rather quiet one last night, thanks to the tube strikes, but we still had lots of fun on the mats and lots of specifics and rolling to keep us all warm as the cooler nights are closing in :)

No Gi Tuesday!

 Two absolute killer No Gi classes last night at Wimbledon BJJ; really pushed the lads hard in both classes, lots of Wrestling drills and got the lads on the body pads smashing in the double legs :)

Then went old school Rickson Gracie Vale Tudo style on the pads, practising shooting in after a front push kick and then went all out crazy dropping in elbows after the front push kick :)

Then over an hour of specifics and sparring finished everyone off, the mats were covered in sweat and lots of hard work and graft as always.

No easy rounds here and casca grossas all round :)

Monday Monkey Mayhem!

 Another week of Jiu Jitsu lies ahead and it always kicks off on a Monday with an action packed afternoon and evening of fun and games in all classes :)

All the L'il Monkeys are back from their holidays and all had a great time on the mats and the tube strikes couldn't get in the way of the adult monkeys getting over to SW19 and twisting up fools :)

FREE Women's Self Defence class!

 Had a brilliant turn out for the first of the free monthly self defence classes for women at the club on Thursday night :)

The ladies packed in a lot of training in such a short time and after the class, all who attended were invited to stay on for the No Gi beginners class and three took up the offer and stayed training until 930pm!

Lots of hard work and more important, lots of laughter and smiles from the ladies, looking forward to the next class, which will be Thursday 2nd October, 6-7pm.

No Gi Thursday

 Two KILLER classes on Thursday night, busy mats for both sessions, lost a few before the team pix, but numbers are back up to speed after the Summer holidays...great to have a few women joining the team, hopefully more will follow :)

Gi Wednesday!

 Two killer Gi classes last night at Northern Monkey HQ, starting with the beginners class and going over the Sumi Gaeshi throw to mount to arm bar for the whole class, just a solid hour of drilling :)

After the beginners class, we had ninety minutes of specifics and sparring, cascades grossas only :)

Had a brilliant time teaching and training with the monkeys, long may this continue :)
